Bortstein's Best Bets for Week 4 in the NFL

Check out this weekend's NFL best bets (Last week: 0-3, Overall 4-5)

GIANTS (-3) over Redskins

The Redskins made Mitch Trubisky look like a Golden God last weekend, so why not further anoint the new kid on the block Daniel Jones as he begins his climb up the New York ladder? He gets to play for the first time in front of his home crowd, and he figures to have a few things in his favor, namely the 20th ranked defense for passing yards surrendered and ranked LAST in the NFL for pass completion percentage. Even without RB Barkley in the lineup, look for G-Men to have enough weapons on offense to put points on the board, leaving the Skins in pass-first mode, which is bad news considering the quality we've seen at the position thus far.

COLTS (-7) over Raiders

In the last seven quarters, the Raiders have been outscored 62-14, and that won't get easier as the road trip from hell continues for nomadic Raiders. Colts QB Jacoby Brissett has calmed a lot of nerves from fans who were convinced the sky was falling outside Lucas Oil Stadium when Andrew Luck announced his retirement days ahead of the regular season opener. The Raiders defense is ranked 24th in the league in passing yards surrendered and have yet to record an interception this season. Meantime, RB Marlon Mack is quietly averaging nearly 5 yards a carry. Not to mention the obvious here, but the Raiders offense, despite a quick start last week at Minnesota, still doesn't have much of an answer at the QB position where Carr has a strong completion rate, but not much emphasis on the downfield strikes.

RAMS (-9 1/2) over Buccaneers

The Rams are perhaps the most well-balanced team in the league right now, and that's not getting enough credit. The Rams defense smothered QB Baker Mayfield early and often in what turned out to be an impressive road win at Cleveland. WR tandem of Cooks and Kupp combined for 214 yards while still waiting for RB Gurley to spring to life. QB Goff is continuing to learn on the fly, and under a pretty intense microscope, which makes the team's fast start all the more impressive. Meantime, cannot begin to count the ways Bucs imploded on themselves last weekend at home against the Giants. QB Winston still one of the most inconsistent play callers in crucial situations. Don't expect that behavior to change on the road against a defense that features the likes of potential MVP candidate Aaron Donald.
