Bortstein's Play of the Day -- Sunday, August 5

SARATOGA Race 7 -- 6 Furlongs

(4) WHAT A CATCH drops into a claiming spot, but finds himself facing open company for the first time in his career. The New York-bred son of Justin Phillip was stakes placed in his most recent start at Finger Lakes, finishing well clear of the rest of the field when a tiring third. The Todd Pletcher trainee gets a significant rider change to barn's leading man John Velasquez and should be prominent on or near the lead from the start. Going to assume the track is going to have still a bit of moisture in it from rains during the weekend, and the main track was clearly more speed favoring under those conditions.
(8) AMERICAN POWER pulled clear late and won impressively against a bit softer company last time out. The class hike for trainer Jason Servis is a confidence booster as is the fact Irad Ortiz stays aboard.
(2) SHOW ME THE BUCKS turns back in distance and returns to a softer spot off a well-beaten third place effort last out at Monmouth Park. This is clearly a more likely contentious placing for the son of Tiz Wonderful, but he does bring only a maiden win into this spot facing multiple winners. Strong human connections will likely keep value at a minimum.
(7) FELIX IN FABULA gutted out a win against similar company last time out. He turns back a bit in distance off the victory, which has already seen the third place finisher come back to win his next outing. The son of Tale of the Cat should be sent along under Carmouche.
