NFL Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell died on Monday (April 6) at the age of 84. Mitchell started his career with the Cleveland Browns in 1958, and in 1962 he was traded to the Washington Redskins, where he became the franchise's first black player.

After hanging up his cleats, Mitchell got a job working as a scout for the Redskins and would go on to become the team's assistant general manager.

Mitchell amassed 14,078 total yards and 91 touchdowns during his 11-year career. He was selected to four Pro Bowls, once a running back, and three times as a wide receiver. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983.

"The game lost a true legend today," Hall of Fame President & CEO David Baker said in a statement. "Bobby was an incredible player, a talented executive, and a real gentleman to everyone with whom he worked or competed against."
