I'm fairly certain that high school/youth football coaches across the country are more than just moderately aware of the ongoing discussion(s) regarding football and its presumed connection to traumatic head injuries.
Thus, I'm also fairly certain that the recent tragic events which took place at Sachem High School East in Farmingville, New York will be discussed and chastised quite a bit this week.
Seems as part of a practice drill for the Flaming Arrows upcoming football season, 16-year-old Joshua Mileto was killed after being hit by a log that was being carried by himself and four other students.
According to reports, the students were participating in a strength and conditioning camp which may have been unrelated to the school itself.
One of the drills at this camp reportedly was a log-carrying exercise.
While all the details of this story are still coming in, it's safe to assume that those people who loudly protest about the health and safety dangers of football relative to head injuries will be monitoring this story closely.
Once again, I'm fascinated by reading tweets and fan accounts of meaningless football games.
I understand the need for fans to get their adrenaline flowing for the upcoming regular season, but please spare me the discussion of what I'm supposedly missing by not tuning in for what is the first preseason game for nearly every team in the league.
The regular season is a few weeks away. I promise, you're not missing much right now.
Meantime, I recognize that I had some personal issues growing up and dealing with my old man, but damn.... NBA correspondent Ethan Skolnick charged with battering his father.
And lastly, because the worlds need to collide at some point on a much larger scale than what we've seen so far... Ronda Rousey is reportedly in training for a career with World Wrestling Entertainment.
According to the Washington Post, Rousey is in the early stages of training and is working with current WWE talent to help bring her along.
Rousey was last seen in a UFC match late in 2016, a match in which she was soundly beaten in less than a minute by Amanda Nunes. She's only fought twice in the UFC in the past 21 months. Recently, she was spotted at a WWE event posing for pictures with Paul "Triple H" Levesque, which of course means the social media world is abuzz.... Stay tuned.
