For as much as we've been inundated with storylines of traditions and dynasties regarding the New England Patriots, the reality is quite clear... the end is near.
Tom Brady can do all the juice cleanses and protein powders in the world. Father Time will have the last laugh at some point in time.
Bill Belichick is still (and may always likely will be) the grand master of game planning, schematics and motivation in today's NFL. But his kind are slowly being pushed to the side in favor of GQ-type faces and younger, supposedly more aggressive game managers.
This matchup isn't about the dynasty. This matchup isn't about the so-called new kids on the block. At the end of the day, it's a football game.
And I think it's gonna be an epic.
Look for both quarterbacks to have their momentary spots in the bright lights. Look for the Rams defensive front line to attack up the middle and attempt to shut down the Patriots rushing attack. If they're not able to do so, it'll be a long day for the Rams.
For the Patriots defensively, they'll need to keep a very close eye on Jared Goff. The Rams QB has been effective during the playoffs, but he has shown signs he can be rattled when pressured, or when unable to find receivers quickly. The right balance of blitzes and various coverage options may very well have Goff divert from his game plan.
I predict this will be a close game, with both offenses being able to move the ball a bit more effectively in the second half.
Enjoy the game, wherever you'll be. And don't forget to tune in LIVE on FOX AM1340/93.9FM for our pregame coverage which starts at noon!
