With apologies to the ESPYS & the WNBA, Wednesday was what has come to be known as the deadest day on the sporting calendar. That’s because the day after Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game (which was held Tuesday) traditionally sees no activity whatsoever from North America’s “Big Four” sports leagues (the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and MLB). This barren day doesn’t always occur on the same date, but the All-Star Game has taken place during the week between July 10 and 16 for more than a decade.
But there is hope!
The date is Thursday, August 1st. That’s just three weeks from now. I know it’s been a struggle. I know you’ve suffered through endless talk of baseball, basketball, hockey and spelling bees. I know you’ve tolerated soccer and tennis, but the light at the end of tunnel is slowly coming into view. It’s the NFL, and it’s back on Thursday, August 1st.
