Check out this weekend's NFL best bets (Last week: 2-1, Overall 4-2)
KANSAS CITY (-6) over Baltimore
It's the home opener for the Chiefs at wild Arrowhead Stadium, and while all eyes will be on QB Patrick Mahomes, who some are already calling among the greatest of all time at the position, there's going to be a lot of eyes also focused on the hometown defense. They've already taken advantage of some sloppy passing from opposing quarterbacks with three picks. I'll be curious to see how the Chiefs defense plans to attack Lamar Jackson, who has proven more than adaptable through the air and on the ground. In the end, I'm looking for Mahomes to keep the Ravens defense on the field longer than they'd like to be in what will easily be their toughest test in the early part of the season.
(Under 43 1/2) MINNESOTA vs Oakland
The Raiders offense went cold in the second half last week against the Chiefs, and now will have to find some answers in their first of five consecutive games on the road against a team that isn't exactly lighting it up on the scoreboard as well. That said, the Vikes defense played well in the second half after a slow starts last week on the road at Green Bay and before that against what's supposed to be a high-powered Falcons machine in Week 1. Which quarterback will have the more "impressive" performance? Carr has better completion percentage than Cousins through two games, while both have equal amounts of TDs and INTs, but Vikings have better reliance on balanced attack.
49ERS (-6 1/2) over Steelers
I'm on record as being "all in" on the Niners after two solid wins on the road (albeit against somewhat inferior competition). Now making their home debut and smelling fresh blood against a backup quarterback on a team that may be reeling from a perilously slow start, I'll look for the Niners to come out blazing with rejuvenated and healthy QB Garoppolo. Niners defense playing with a sense of urgency (5 turnovers in first two games) as well and will be looking to take advantage of new starter Rudolph. Steelers confident that RB Conner will be healthy after an injury last weekend, but his production has been limited at best early in season.
