The B-17 G Flying Fortress is named "Sentimental Journey" and was built in 1944.
2017 marked the 31st anniversary of Summer Tour duty!
There are only 10 B-17 G's in the world that are still flying. There were nearly 13,000 produced from 1936 to 1945.
Known as a strategic weapon because it was a potent, high-flying, long-range bomber that could defend itself, it was nicknamed the "Flying Fortress" due to its ability to suffer extensive damage and return home.
It was developed by Boeing and produced by Boeing, as well as Douglas and Lockheed.
B-17s dropped more bombs than all other U.S. aircraft in World War II. A total of 640,000 tons out of the total 1.5 million tons in the entire war. They were also used as transport, and in anti-submarine warfare as well as drone controllers and search-and-rescue missions.
The Flying Legends of Victory Tour is a division of the national Commemorative Air Force and its AirPower History Tour and come from the Arizona Airbase.
These planes have appeared in classic films like Twelve o'Clock High, as well as Tora! Tora! Tora!, Memphis Belle, Test Pilot and Command Decision.
