A new week, but so much has changed. Here's the latest rankings!
(1) SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS -- (Up two spots) The lone remaining team in the league with an unblemished record gets to stand alone.
For now.
I understand there are still lingering questions supposedly about a weak schedule or the insane ideology about Jimmy G not putting up enough gaudy numbers to satiate the fantasy football geeks. I simply don't care. The team ranks third in the league in offensive scoring, second in the league in rushing yards and is in the top two in three primary defensive categories, points against (12.8 average), yards against (241 average) and passing yards against (138.1 average). If you're not on board with this, we might not be able to be friends. Now, could things change after Monday night against the Seahawks? Absolutely. But I'll put my name on this one today. After all, I'd been calling out this team since Week 2!
And now, the rest of the Top Ten!
(2) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (No change) Can't penalize 'em for a bye week. Can't give 'em the benefit for it either!
(3) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (Up two spots) Matt Moore to the rescue. And a gut check win before the reigning MVP makes his return!
(4) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (Down three spots) I'm not going to join in the over reaction to a road loss. Students of this "dynasty" thing know better.
(5) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (Up two spots) The showdown for the NFC West looms large on Monday night. Russell Wilson is on fire!
(6) BALTIMORE RAVENS (Up four spots) On again, off again at their best. Big win over the Pats for sure. Still need to be sold on consistency.
(7) DALLAS COWBOYS (Up one spot) Took care of business aided by a roaming black cat and a subpar division opponent.
(8) GREEN BAY PACKERS (Down four spots) No excuses for a lousy performance on the road. That cannot happen at this level.
(9) HOUSTON TEXANS (Returned to list) Huge matchup next week off the bye at Baltimore. Defensively stepped up vs. Jags after loss of JJ Watt.
(10) MINNESOTA VIKINGS (Down four spots) They wreck another chance to prove themselves better. This one's not all the fault of their QB.
