Doug Gottlieb: What Are the Lakers Doing?

Doug Gottlieb: Rob Pelinka and Lakers Have No Idea What They're Doing
Doug Gottlieb: “WHAT ARE THE LAKERS DOING?? Is Lakers spelled ‘A-A-R-P’?? They’re the oldest team in the NBA and they’re getting OLDER. I don’t understand this plan… The Lakers are OLD. I can like the Carmelo move, I can understand the Westbrook move, I can understand the Dwight Howard move, but when you add Dwight Howard AND Russell Westbrook AND Trevor Arizona AND Carmelo Anthony I’m just like ‘What are you trying to win? The 2010 NBA Championship or the 2022 NBA Championship??”

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he doesn’t really understand what the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to pull off this NBA offseason that has effectively seen the team purge their entire roster around stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Over the course of one week, the team has added Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Trevor Arizona, Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore, Malik Monk, and Kendrick Nunn, and gotten rid of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Dennis Schroder, Alex Caruso, Wesley Matthews, Andre Drummond, Ben McLemore, and Markieff Morris.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb discusses the wholesale changes, and why he believes this would have been a good strategy a decade ago when Howard, Anthony, and Ariza were actually good.
