Professional wrestling legend Sabu, best known for his run with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), has reportedly died at the age of 60, PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reports.
Sabu, whose real name was Terry Brunk, was one of the most influential hardcore wrestlers of all time, serving as one of ECW's biggest stars during the 1990s, which included winning the ECW World Championship twice. Johnson reported that PWInsider.com was "working on additional details" at the time of publication Sunday (May 11) afternoon.
Brunk recently defeated Joey Janela during WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas for Game Changer Wrestling on April 18 and made his final public appearance at the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance reunion show convention, which was held at 2300 Arena, ECW's Philadelphia home, last weekend, according to Johnson.
Brunk began his wrestling career under the tutelage of his uncle, the legendary Ed 'The Sheik' Farhat, and made his debut in 1985 and appeared in several promotions before his then-Eastern Championship Wrestling debut in 1993, becoming a fixture during its rebranding to Extreme Championship Wrestling and popularity boom in the late 1990s. Brunk later wrestled for WWE after the company had previously purchased and later rebooted ECW as a third brand from 2006 to 2007, Total Nonstop Action from 2002-2006 and again in 2010 and made a one-off appearance in All Elite Wrestling as a special guest enforcer in the match between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in 2023.
