Wednesday, July 19 -- Opening Day at Del Mar

Opening Day at Del Mar is a tradition in southern California. The picturesque seaside resort track, located just miles north of San Diego and within a mile of the Pacific Ocean, runs an annual summer meet considered to be one of the finest in the country.

In addition to best bets found on the weekends during editions of "The Fast Track", we'll offer best bets during the weekdays here on the web from time to time during the season.

Make sure to check in right here and on "The Fast Track", weekends at 10am ET on FOX AM1340/93.9FM and on I Heart Radio, streamed live on our website.

DEL MAR
Race 2 - (3) WHERE Y’AT JOE JOE (5-2) usually fires in dirt sprints when he is not wearing blinkers and looked good beating $20k foes at SA June 30 (blinkers off, 126 Final). Baze sticks and he landed the place in both local outings. (1) Pedro Cerrano (2-1) is 2-for-2 at DMR (117, 125 Final) and is firing bullets for his first start in 8+ months. Pedroza was aboard for his debut maiden win last year and he was 4-for-12 w/Miller at DMR last year. (5) Logan’s Moon (3-1) was up for the place behind Where Y’at Joe Joe June 30 (122 Final) and Ellis reached in a nabbed him for $20k. He is in good form and finished 3rd in his lone local try. (6) Bronzino (6-1) was re-claimed out of his last by O’Neill. He turns back, switches surfaces, and Bejarano (2-for-25 w/O’Neill) rode him to a place finish June 10 (132 Final, 8T).

DEL MAR
Race 7 – (2) KARMA KING (15-1) makes his second start off a long layoff for trainer Brian Koriner and returns to a course where he has done most of his best work. The son of Pure Prize has never been worse than second in five starts at the seaside resort. He showed good speed before tiring in the final yards at this trip last out at Santa Anita, but has come back with three strong workouts and should offer plenty of value in a wide open spot. (9) GIANT EXPECTATIONS (7/2) is looking for his third straight win while also returning to southern California for trainer Peter Eurton. The New York-bred son of Frost Giant beat up on state-bre company in his most recent pair of starts at Belmont Park, but appears to have come back a better horse. (7) ABSOLUTELY STYLISH (5/2) earned a strong speed figure when breaking his maiden in his second career start for trainer Eddie Truman. The runner-up from that contest came back to win his next start, but he may be overbet off that figure alone and may not offer enough value facing winners for the first time. (10) MAGICAL MYSTERY (5-1) was last seen facing the likes of West Coast, finishing second behind that one last April at Santa Anita. All that runner has done has rattle off two stakes wins and has become the likely favorite for the Travers Stakes next month. The Scott Hansen trainee has finished first or second in three of his last four starts and has to be considered a threat from off the pace.
