The Tuesday Show Prep

Josh Rosen of UCLA

"Sure... go ahead and go home early. You're up by 30-plus points late in the third quarter. What's the worst that could happen?"

I imagine some poor Texas A&M Aggies fan might have said that late Sunday night as their team was rolling the UCLA Bruins inside the Rose Bowl.

Hell, maybe if they left early, it might have been for the best.

A historic comeback propelled the Bruins to an inexplicable 45-44 victory over Texas A&M, not only assuring the Pac-12 conference of a perfect weekend on the field, but also adding to the "mystique" if you will of quarterback Josh Rosen.

And let's stop with the nonsense about some Aggie faithful calling for head coach Kevin Sumlin to be fired.

Texas A&M regent Tony Buzbee, an attorney based in Houston, apparently just can't handle the course of events which took place inside the Rose Bowl, expressing his displeasure in a public posting on Facebook.

"I'm sure I may be criticized for this post but I honestly don't care. I've been on the Board of Regents for the A&M System for almost seven years. During that time, I've not once commented on Kevin Sumlin and his performance during his tenure at our school. I never said a word when he and his agent manipulated a much bigger and longer contract. I said nothing about his arrogance and his mishandling of multiple player controversies. I said nothing when we had multiple awesome recruiting classes, only to see key players leave our school or underperform. But tonight I am very disappointed and I have to say this. Kevin Sumlin was out-coached tonight, which isn't new. He recruits well, but can't coach the big games, or the close games. Our players were better tonight. Our players were more talented tonight. But our coaches were dominated on national TV, yet again. I'm only one vote on the Board of Regents but when the time comes my vote will be that Kevin Sumlin needs to GO. In my view he should go now. We owe it to our school and our players. We can do better."

Nicely done, Mr. Buzbee. You just made an uncomfortable loss for the team a little bit worse for the entire program. Take a bow for making it about yourself.

NFL Kickoff Weekend

And so it begins....

Thursday night, and the start of the 2017 NFL season.

Today, tomorrow and Thursday, I'll be offering up my predictions as far as playoffs, Super Bowls and more.

The return of the weekly Fox Flush comes up on Wednesday, where each week for the next 14 weeks, we'll eliminate two teams from Super Bowl contention.

And our own live play-by-play coverage of the NFL gets started on Thursday night when the champion New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tune in all season long to Westwood One's coverage of the NFL all the way through Super Bowl LII next February.

Ezekiel Elliott

I'm reminded of the Tom Petty song "The Waiting", in particular one lyric which may have a foreboding presence in the life of one Ezekiel Elliott.

"Well yeah I might have chased a couple of women around
All it ever got me was down"

As fans, pundits, critics, etc., we're all waiting for the official statement regarding the status of Elliott's 6-game suspension.

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Elliott's status this weekend against NFC East division-rival New York Giants is still a bit unknown.

And while the Giants are preparing for Elliott, or whoever might be coming out from behind the backfield, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett is preparing Elliott as if he'll be the featured running back this Sunday night.

"We're just going to prepare for the Giants, and Zeke will practice until someone tells him not to. And the other guys will get ready to play."

We wait with bated breath.

In the meantime, a music interlude. You're welcome.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE DODGERS???

Los Angeles Dodgers v Arizona Diamondbacks

Look. I'm not panicking!

I told you. I'm not panicking. Not worried at all.

Those fingernail shavings, covered in drool on the floor beneath my feet? I have no idea where they came from!

The strands of yanked hair still floating in the air? Not mine.

The rapid heartbeat one incurs when watching Arizona Diamondbacks slugger JD Martinez tattoo four baseballs into the bleacher seats at Dodger Stadium? That's just admiring a rare achievement, that's all.

This is why I hate cheering for anyone or anything.

Brock Osweiler

He's baaaaccckkk.....

Welcome back to Denver, Brock.

I know you don't need me, or an actual fan of the Broncos to tell you this.... but, since you didn't ask, let's all be very clear here.

If you'd have just kept your mouth shut from the end of the 2015 season, none of these silly shenanigans would have taken place.

Just sayin'.

All of this and more is coming up today on FIRST SPORTS.
