Derek Carr injured

The Oakland Raiders will be without quarterback Derek Carr for the second time in as many seasons, according to head coach Jack Del Rio.

Carr was injured last Sunday in the third quarter of their road loss to the Denver Broncos. According to a statement released by the team, and in comments from Del Rio, Carr has a fracture in his lower back that may force him to miss at least 2 weeks.

Del Rio told reporters that Carr's injury-related timeline "could be as short as two weeks. It could be longer," indicating Carr could be out as long as six weeks.

With two of the Raiders next three games against division rivals Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, an untimely loss could significantly hamper the chances of the 2-2 Raiders of salvaging a postseason bid. The Raiders currently trail the 4-0 Chiefs and the 3-1 Broncos.

E.J. Manuel will be filling in for Carr during his absence while Coonor Cook will serve as the team's backup.

Mike Glennon

Chicago Bears quarterback Mike Glennon once again proved himself to be rather unworthy of the position as starting signal caller.

Thus, the team announced this week that rookie Mitch Trubisky will be at the helm this weekend when the Bears host the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night.

The Bears are currently the third lowest-scoring team (61 points) this season and are at the bottom of the NFC North standings.

Glennon, who signed an enormous contract this offseason when he came over from the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, has thrown four TDs this season, but has been intercepted five times and also committed five fumbles.

San Francisco 49ers v Seattle Seahawks

Two teams took significant body blows this week at the running back position.

Chris Carson from the Seattle Seahawks was injured during a run in the fourth quarter of their 46-18 blowout win over the Indianapolis Colts. Carson injured his left leg as his lower leg was pinned under a defender. Following the game, coach Pete Carroll referred to it as a "significant" ankle injury. On Monday, Carroll clarified that it's a fracture in Carson's lower leg. "Unfortunately, he's going to be out," Carroll said.

Meantime, another gut punch for the Minnesota Vikings this week with news of Dalvin Cook, who will miss the rest of the season.

Cook went down with a knee injury during the Vikings 14-7 loss against the Detroit Lions. The rookie had been a pleasant surprise for the Vikings but they will now have to turn to backups for what appears to be the rest of the season.

With Sam Bradford still out for the Vikings and no immediate timetable established for his return, it may be time to shelve those high expectations which accompanied this team coming into the season.
