Coming off a mild upset score in last year's James Isaac Stakes at Zia Park, Rarin will be looking to make a smart return to action Friday in the $50,000 La Plata Stakes at SunRay Park and Casino.
Trained by Robert Sanderson and owned by Olaya Munoz Duarte, the 7-year-old gelded son of Inseperable is a nine-time winner from 26 career starts, with earnings topping $174,000. Prior to winning the James Isaac Stakes in 2019, the Oklahoma-bred won a state-bred stakes race at Remington Park in 2018 and comes into Friday's spot with an impressive resume.
Listed on the morning line at odds of 5-to-2, Rarin will break from post position 9 in the 10-horse field which will race 400 yards. Rarin will have jockey Martin Felix aboard.
There are several interesting contenders in the La Plata, which will go as the 8th race on a 9-race program that has a first post time of 3 p.m.
Drawn on the rail is Putinical, who ran third last September in the $300,000 Albuquerque Fall Championship. The Oklahoma-bred son of Apollitical Jess won his next start at Zia Park before losing all chance as the 7-to-10 favorite in his most recent outing last December.
Listed at 6-to-1 on the morning line and attracting jockey Edgar Martinez aboard for trainer Beatriz Sanchez-Carrillo, Putinical is a five-time winner and earner of more than $104,000 in his career.
Lota Pyc Chrome has finished no worse than second in each of his last six starts and comes into the La Plata as the 7-to-2 second choice for owner/trainer Diego Luis Mena. The Oklahoma-bred son of Lota Pyc has been off since a winning effort against allowance company last December at Zia Park. He drew the 6 hole and will be ridden by Mauro Salcedo.
Longshot bettors may be attracted to 20-to-1 contender Khronos, who was compromised by a rough start last time out when finishing sixth against allowance company at Sunland Park. The California-bred son of Foose has climbed the allowance ranks of late for trainer Isidro Rodriguez.
Khronos will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez and will break from post 7 in the La Plata, which has a scheduled post time of 5:48 p.m. local time.
